The Helein Family Has Stepped Out in Faith and Love!
Two years ago, Gladys and I and our children prayerfully answered God’s call to the mission field and to plant a donation based pastoral counseling center in Killeen, Texas just outside the gates of Fort Hood. However, our ministry, So Broken…So Loved, and its mission of healing, unlike most missionary organizations, is not connected in any way to a supporting parent church or missional board. That means our vision and mission depend on people just like you for support.
Having spent years ministering in diverse and under resourced neighborhoods just outside Washington D.C., while partnering with local agencies as a family and crisis counselor in homes and on the streets, God has made it clear that Gladys and I were to answer the calling as local missionaries to Killeen, Texas and Fort Hood. I believe that God is calling others such as yourself to be a part of this amazing mission.
I was drawn to this region because of the desperate physical, mental, and spiritual needs of Fort Hood’s military families which consist of nearly every people group and social-economic background imaginable. It is true that there are large Non-government organizations (NGOs) that support our men and women in uniform, however, these programs are often so large they lack the personal component needed to truly connect with each family member and none of these NGOs address the great spiritual needs of these warriors and their families. Though my family is called to minister to this population many of those we are ministering to are unable to financially support our missional efforts. That’s where you can help.
Gladys and I and our leadership are fully aware of the sacrifice we are asking of you and your family but we believe it is God’s will and God’s time for us to begin this great journey of faith. Rather than being deterred by the troubled times we live in-- our faith has only increased since it is always true that man’s adversity is God’s opportunity. As missionaries, your monthly support or one-time gift of any amount will go along way toward providing spiritual and emotional healing to our military men and women and their families who have sacrificed so much for so many others. Would you consider becoming a huge blessing to our calling by joining our team through monthly support (we are raising $4000 of monthly support) or by providing a generous gift that will be used in securing a permanent home for our military counseling and care ministries. All gifts are tax deductible.
Our Very Special Mission Field – Fort Hood
When you look into the eyes of one of our Soldiers who have faithfully served our great nation in some of the most dangerous regions of the world, it's impossible to know their pain. Even more tragically, when you get to know a Soldier’s family, especially their children, it’s inconceivable to know the anguish that months of separation from their loved ones has caused. The heart ache is at times, unbearable. Tragically, so many of these brave families suffer quietly, unable to get the help they need to return to a peaceful and purposeful life. We provide the help they need regardless of their ability to pay.
These men and women serving in our armed forces and their families are a very precious part of our nation and they need our help. Current resources for trauma and family counseling are very scarce. Our church and counseling vision is strategically aimed at bringing the love of Jesus and the healing only He can provide to these military families and the greater Fort Hood Community. As a local expression of the Body of Christ, our goal is not to build another large church but to launch from a strategically located property and passionately Christ demonstrate the love of Jesus to our heroes and their families.
My family is very aware that this mission might be considered radical by some, but we ask this question, “What if God isn’t who you think He is and neither are you?” Gladys and I are convinced that God’s redemptive power is what these families desperately need. In this light, I truly believe that Jesus Christ and His church will be honored and glorified by supporting us in this endeavor. I write this letter to you in good faith and earnestness on the part of God’s people who are ready to care for these families. Your gift of any amount gives you the opportunity to support a truly on the ground missional movement that is already having a great impact in the social and sacred spheres of our military town here in Texas. This is what makes our mission so different than other support agencies in this arena.
Fort Hood is the largest military installation in the world and is historically the most combat deployed base in our nation, sending our men and women into the most dangerous combat theaters all around the world. These fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, and sons and daughters must leave behind their loved ones for months and even years at a time. All to protect us and our freedoms here at home. As missionaries we continue to make great gains into the community and our Soldier’s families lives with the good news of Jesus and the spiritual healing this community desperately needs.
We feel we are called to this place for this time to reach the military community and provide healing to our brave men and women who are currently assigned to Fort Hood. That's why we need your help. Your consideration in supporting our vision and mission will save a Soldier and their family a life of pain and suffering--and open a world of opportunities and the life abundant each of these family members so desires. What is more, your involvement will help our missions’ family reach the town of Killeen and those who support Fort Hood with the living hope and transformative and healing power found only in Jesus.
Your financial support will go a long way in realizing this dream. Gladys and I and our missional family realize that you might be supporting other ministries, so it is with great humility that we ask you to consider donating to this missional cause we lovingly call
So Broken…So Loved ministries with a generous gift toward this urgent need.
We would love to discuss our vision and mission as well as our heart for the community of Fort Hood. Please feel free to check out our statement of faith and core values on our website here.
